True Vine Trust for Tanzania

True Vine Trust for Tanzania is a Christian charity based in the U.K. that has worked with its local partner, Agape Mission Tanzania, since the turn of the century. Together they have given support to hospitals, orphanages, rehabilitation centres and schools in the regions of Arusha and the Maasai Steppe. It’s main focus is supporting the work of Mgutwa School.

Agape Mission’s focus is now Mgutwa School on the Massai Steppe of Simanjiro district in Manyara Region. The School provides excellent, state-approved secondary education, and with the help of money from the True Vine Trust fees are kept as low as possible.

The Mgutwa School students

With climate change making life increasingly hard in this remote area, Mgutwa gives young people twenty-first century knowledge and skills to share with their families. This makes it possible for their rural communities to adapt and survive even in a time of repeated draught and floods.

The Name Mgutwa

The word Mgutwa comes from Tanzania’s Gogo tribe, who have always gone away to learn survival skills and return home with food to sustain each other. Mgutwa School has the same ethos, with the education it gives its students preparing them to play an important part in the future of their communities.
